This weekend the Red Bull Ring in Austria was the setting for the 13th race of the season in MotoGP. Invited by Aprilia , Fernando Alonso attended as a VIP to enjoy the battle in the premier class of motorsport.

The big news that came out was the introduction of Saturday sprint races in every MotoGP race weekend from 2023. A familiar format in Formula 1, the Spaniard was asked for a comment by MotoGP.com.

F1 can learn from MotoGP

"I think it's a good idea," says Alonso, "it gives us more room for more action on Saturday itself, so we'll be watching on Saturday as well and not just on Sunday." Unlike in Formula 1, the result of Saturday's sprint race will not affect Sunday's starting grid. An advantage, according to Alonso: "The drivers can take a little more risk on Saturday without it affecting their grid position for Sunday."

The Formula One driver is a big fan of MotoGP: "I, like all Spaniards, watch MotoGP from childhood. It's a very popular sport."
