Max Verstappen will start the second half of the season with the nineteen other drivers. Although he is eighty points ahead of Charles Leclerc and therefore has the best chance of winning the world title, the Dutchman expects that he will have a difficult time.

The reigning world champion believes that his current lead says little about the real balance of power that was on display before the summer break. For example, Ferrari often performed better in qualifying, but made several crucial mistakes in the race.

Verstappen sees potential danger

Verstappen is convinced that the competition is learning and will therefore return stronger. He is not counting on his current lead being any great advantage, but instead stresses that he needs to be very sharp for nine more Grands Prix.

"I think the difference in points doesn't really reflect how the competition has actually gone so far during the season, because I don't think we've been really dominant in any of the races we've done," he told Verstappen.com.

In addition, Verstappen knows that a lot can still happen. "Everyone will also get grid penalties because of engine changes. We have to focus on every single race to get the maximum out of it every time."
