Masi returns to motor racing after resignation from FIA

Michael Masi has officially found a new role in motorsport. As expected, the former Formula 1 race director will start as chairman of the Supercars Commission.
Masi was sidelined by the FIA as race director at the start of 2022. The Australian had taken over that role from Charlie Whiting after the latter died suddenly in 2019. Masi initially filled the role as an interim, but was later fully appointed as the new race director.
Masi back in motorsport
In 2021, however, Masi's performance came in for a lot of criticism. He was said to be too capricious, frequently contacted team owners himself and came under fire after his decision to bring in the safety car in Abu Dhabi a lap before the end of the race. Masi even received death threats.
However, after leaving the FIA, Masi quickly found a new position in his own country. He succeeds Neil Cromptom as chairman of the Supercars Commission. With that, he returns to motorsport and his own country. The series is mainly run in Australia, although the next race in his new role will be at the ITM Auckland SuperSprint in New Zealand.
