Max Verstappen is full of enthusiasm for the Dutch Grand Prix. After his victory last year he hopes to repeat that trick this weekend. The Dutchman knows better than anyone that this will not be easy, he told the press, including GPblog.

The frontrunner in the world championship still looks back on 2021 with a good feeling. "It was already incredible last year," says Verstappen. "An amazing track for a F1 car. Especially on a quali lap. Amazing atmosphere and a lot of orange so looking forward to the weekend."

"When you drive out they are cheering for you. I try to enjoy it as much as I can. Spa was amazing for us and better expected. Our car suited it well. Here you run downforce on the car, different track layout so it will be interesting. If we nail the set-up our car will be quick."

Verstappen on a safe lead in World Cup

The Dutchman needs just a few more wins to lead himself to the world title. The gap to rival Charles Leclerc, who has now been overtaken by Sergio Perez, has increased to almost a hundred points. Verstappen does not think he will have it easy at Zandvoort, however. "Its going to be interesting. I’m sure we will be quick. Just how quick it will be is still a question mark."
