Marko hints at Gasly moving to Alpine: "His dream"
- GPblog.com
Alpine hopes to add Pierre Gasly to the team next season as a replacement for the departing Fernando Alonso. Although he has an ongoing contract at AlphaTauri, Helmut Marko told the German branch of Sky Sports that he is willing to let the driver go.
With Gasly, AlphaTauri has a reliable driver who is also having an excellent season in 2022. However, the driver seems to want to look a little further ahead and hopes to achieve success with the French factory team. The Red Bull Racing advisor can well understand this.
"I said we have a valid contract for 2023," Marko said. "But in the meantime there are talks. If our conditions are met, we would not stand in Gasly’s way. For him, the dream of driving in a French factory team would come true."
Gasly possibly going for a fourth career change
The Austrian left it open as to what conditions these would be, but what is certain is that Marko is opening the door a little for Alpine. It would be Gasly's fourth team in Formula One after Toro Rosso, Red Bull and AlphaTauri. In 2019, he achieved his highest ranking by finishing seventh.
