Hamilton: Ferrari are still favourites for World Championship
Lewis Hamilton believes Ferrari are still favourites for the World Championshi despite Mercedes having a 22 point lead. The Italians have had a dip in form recently, but the Brit insists they still have the best car.
Is it a way of keeping Ferrari under pressure? Or is Hamilton expressing honest feelings? He split the Ferrari’s in Monaco by finishing 3rd. Bottas finished in 5th giving Ferrari a five-point advantage in the latest chapter.
“They’ve dropped the ball a few times and we’ve capitalised on that,” said Lewis. “But I still feel Ferrari are still the strongest and Sebastian’s been doing the strongest job.”
Red Bull went on to win in Monte Carlo giving them momentum ready for their engine upgrade coming in Canada. And Hamilton went on to suggest he’s cautious of this and waiting to find out the strength of the second version of the Renault engine.
“Red Bull have potentially got an upgrade coming at some stage engine-wise at the next race so it will be interesting to see their performance,” added Hamilton.
“They will continue to get stronger through the year. Hopefully, while the race was not the most exciting, hopefully, it’s great for the fans to see this battle we’re having.”
Ricciardo, Vettel and Hamilton himself all share two wins each this season. Hamilton is relishing this competition as we move into the busiest part of the season.
