Marko understands F1 fans' frustration: 'Provided they talk about the FIA'

Cheers erupted from the stands at Monza as the flag fell. Max Verstappen crossed the line first, but did not have to fight for it for the last five laps. Dr Helmut Marko understands the annoyance of the F1 fans, if directed at the FIA.
Marko understands irritated F1 fans
The Red Bull Racing advisor is not impressed with the FIA's actions during the closing stages of the Italian Grand Prix. Verstappen won the race behind the safety car, as the track was ready to resume the race late. Daniel Ricciardo's retirement at an awkward spot on the track meant that the drivers classified themselves where they were at the time. There were boos at the finish, but the moment Verstappen crossed the bridge to the iconic Monza podium they sounded again. Marko understands the annoyance of F1 fans, provided that annoyance is directed at the FIA.
Speaking to Austrian public broadcaster ORF, Marko says: "The people behaved honestly. That they booed about the race decision was absolutely right. I think the situation should be reconsidered. First of all, a faster recovery is essential, but above all the rule of letting drivers pass who have been put on a lap does not help." According to Marko, the restart after a safety car should be quicker and those behind should just stay in their places. The problem is that these cars get a blue flag right at the restart and have to let the cars behind them pass.
Verstappen is not easy to overtake
Marko sees only advantages in it and would apparently have liked to see Verstappen fight it out on the last lap at Monza: "That way we would have an incredibly exciting lap - obviously not for us if you are in the lead at Monza, but overtaking a Max Verstappen on the last lap is not easy either."
