Formula 1 has gained popularity around the world in recent years. Next season, for instance, the Las Vegas Grand Prix will be newly on the programme, while South Africa is reportedly nominated to host a race weekend from 2024. Colombia, meanwhile, also continues to hope for a GP, according to Jaime Pumarejo.
Speaking to Bluradio.com, the mayor of Barranquilla, the city where the Formula 1 race is supposed to be held, gives an update on the state of affairs. According to him, however, hard work is being done behind the scenes to create the conditions to bring Formula 1 to Colombia.
The environment of the circuit in Colombia would be one of the main reasons for Formula 1 to bring the motorsport class to the country. However, Pumarejo stresses that there is still a lot to be done for the decision to be ultimately positive.
GP Colombia should not cost country anything
The race weekend should not cost the country or city anything, but should create jobs, tourism and recognition. The organisation plans to develop the idea further in the coming period, after which it hopes to hold the first race in 2024 or 2025.
