Max Verstappen had to let Lewis Hamilton ahead in the closing stages of the first free practice session for the Singapore Grand Prix. The Briton managed to beat the Dutchman's fast time at the last minute, while Verstappen spun on track in the closing stages.

A lot happened immediately during FP1 in Singapore. George Russell caused a yellow flag when he lightly touched the wall, while Lance Stroll had to stop on track after hitting the wall hard with his rear tyre. This briefly caused a red flag.

Hamilton beats Verstappen

In the end, not Verstappen, but Hamilton was the fastest man of the session. The Dutchman was at the top of the timesheet for almost the entire session, but in the final minutes of FP1, Hamilton managed to beat his rival's time. Charles Leclerc, who was in the garage for much of the session due to brake problems, finished in third place.

Sergio Perez recorded the fourth time, but the Mexican had to park his Red Bull car in the garage in the closing stages due to problems. Russell and Carlos Sainz completed the top six. Alpine is also looking strong so far with both drivers in the top ten. Lance Stroll finished on P8 despite his moment.
