Pierre Gasly will officially leave the Red Bull family. The Frenchman will make the switch to Alpine in 2023 and will become Esteban Ocon's new teammate. Gasly himself is enthusiastic about the new challenge.
Gasly has signed a multi-year contract at Alpine. The team now has an all-French line-up with the AlphaTauri driver and Ocon. Gasly was keen to drive for a factory team again after being dropped from Red Bull Racing's factory team in 2019.
"I am delighted to join the Alpine family and begin this new chapter in my Formula 1 career. Driving for a team that has French roots is something very special. I know the strengths of Alpine having raced against them over the past couple of years and, clearly, their progress and ambition is very impressive," Gasly revealed in the press release.
Gasly thanks Red Bull for the trust and support
After nine years with the Red Bull family, Gasly will say goodbye to the team. With Sergio Perez's contract extension, it became clear to the Frenchman that there would be no place for him at the top team alongside Max Verstappen for the time being. At Alpine, he will take on a new challenge.
"I wish to thank Red Bull as this marks the end of our nine-year journey together. It is thanks to their trust and support that I became a Formula 1 driver, and what we’ve achieved with Scuderia AlphaTauri over the last years has been very special. Looking ahead, I want to give the maximum and utilise all my experience to fight for podiums and ultimately contribute to Alpine’s fight for championships in the future," Gasly said.
