Windsor on Verstappen and Norris moment: 'Was a very bizarre thing'
- GPblog.com
Peter Windsor goes into his YouTube video of Saturday about the crazy moment Max Verstappen and Lando Norris experienced during qualifying in Japan. According to the analyst, it was a weird situation that he is not used to from Verstappen.
Near crash between Norris and Verstappen
Verstappen was driving very slowly for his final run just before the circuit's final chicane. He was warming up his tyres one more time and seemed not to have seen Lando Norris who was driving behind him at speed. Verstappen accelerated to warm up his tyres and lost the back end.
"Lando Norris was coming round the track very quickly through 130R and had to go onto the grass to avoid him, so that was a very ‘un-Max’ like moment," Windsor states. "I mean really if you’re going to be going that slowly why wasn’t it on the side of the track, the inside and why was he doing, sort of, burn-outs at that point anyway with the tyres that cold?"
No penalty for Verstappen
"The whole thing was slightly bizarre, make that very bizarre," Windsor said. Verstappen was called to the stewards' stand after the incident. The Red Bull Racing driver eventually came away with a reprimand and may keep his pole position.
