Newey: Verstappen has 'hardly made any mistakes' in the 2022 F1 season
Adrian Newey has won yet another Formula 1 Drivers' World Championship. The designer took the lead on Red Bull's RB18. Combined with Sergio Perez wins, the Red Bull car has won 14 races this season and thus becomes the most successful Newey car.
"That's rewarding to know," Newey said when Sky Sports told him the news. Red Bull didn't start the season well in Bahrain and Verstappen also retired from the Australian Grand Prix. But since then, Verstappen has won most races whilst Ferrari and Charles Leclerc have made mistakes.
"We have had a good run, Ferrari have had a quick car. Early on and in many races, they were a bit quicker but we managed to get our performance working at all circuits and had a good run after the summer break," Newey added.
Super Max
Verstappen opened up a gap of more than 23 seconds in just 28 laps of racing in wet conditions. It was a race that sort of personified the 2022 World Championship for Verstappen. After winning his first world title last year in Abu Dhabi, Verstappen wins it with four races to spare. Newey highlights how little mistakes the Dutchman has made.
"Max has been superb this year. In the traffic in Singapore, it was a mistake but apart from that no mistakes. He deserves his success this year. It's a team effort, a huge well done to all the guys at Milton Keynes," he concluded.
