The FIA has released a statement following the dangerous situation at the Japanese Grand Prix. The events during the race will be thoroughly investigated.

Several drivers and team bosses were very upset when a tractor appeared on the track during the safety car period. The vehicle was on the drivers' racing line. Pierre Gasly in particular was shocked, as the driver drove past the tractor at a tremendous speed as he tried to overtake the rear under the safety car. Just before the Frenchman passed the vehicle, there was a red flag.

The FIA has now informed that there will be a thorough investigation into the events at Suzuka. The FIA takes drivers' feedback seriously. Eight years ago, driver Jules Bianchi died when he crashed into a crane in similar conditions.

FIA announces investigation

"While it is normal practice to recover cars under Safety Car and Red Flag conditions, due to the particular circumstances and also taking into account feedback from of a number of drivers, the FIA has launched a thorough review of the events involving the deployment of recovery vehicles during the Japanese Grand Prix. This is part of the common practice of debrief and analysis of all race incidents to ensure continual improvements of processes and procedures," the statement reads.
