Wolff explains Mercedes thinking: 'If something goes wrong'
- GPblog.com
Toto Wolff hoped to witness a better season with Mercedes in early 2022, but it was not to be. After years of dominance, the German formation had to make do with a place behind Red Bull Racing and Mercedes this year. The team boss is keen for his team to return to the top of Formula 1, he told in conversation with Formule1.nl.
The Austrian acknowledges that something went wrong at Mercedes this year. The racing stable tried to do something different from its direct competitors at the beginning of the race year, which did not work out well. Moreover, it did not get porpoising under control, losing a lot of speed on the track.
Wolff, however, refuses to blame anyone within the team, but instead wants to look for a solution quickly. "If something goes wrong, we blame the problem, not the person," stressed Wolff, who is convinced that Mercedes has the right drivers.
Learning season for Mercedes
With Lewis Hamilton, and one-time Nico Rosberg, Mercedes was the best team on the grid for many years, so it started to get used to the situation. Wolff therefore learned an important lesson this year. "That winning cannot be taken for granted," said the team boss. At the end of the interview, Wolff further stressed that Mercedes will soon fight for the world championship again.
