Like Max Verstappen, Nyck de Vries has also reacted to the sad news about Dietrich Mateschitz. It was announced on Saturday in Austin that the Red Bull boss had died at the age of 78.
De Vries recently signed a contract with AlphaTauri for the 2023 season. As a new member of the Red Bull family, De Vries is also touched by the news. "I am grateful to Dietrich for this opportunity, that I get to be part of his legacy and that I get to represent the Red Bull family in this sport," the Dutchman says in conversation with De Telegraaf.
After his impressive performance at the Italian Grand Prix, several teams were interested in De Vries. The Dutchman eventually opted for a seat with Red Bull Racing's sister team. There, he will become Yuki Tsunoda's teammate.
Sport owes a lot to Mateschitz
Mateschitz has given many young drivers a chance in Formula 1. Verstappen, for instance, made his debut as early as the age of 17. Not only is Red Bull's team successful thanks to the Austrian, but AlphaTauri also wouldn't exist without Mateschitz either.
"It is wonderful to see how many opportunities he has given drivers and how much the sport owes to him. I hope we can continue his success together," De Vries ends.
