Gasly close to a Grand Prix suspension: nine penalty points already
- GPblog.com
Pierre Gasly is accumulating a good many penalty points on his licence in recent months. After the US Grand Prix, the AlphaTauri driver is on nine points. Twelve penalty points will result in a suspension of one Grand Prix weekend. So it will be watchful for Gasly in the coming period.
At the Circuit of the Americas, Gasly did not stay within the required ten car lengths behind the safety car. The FIA had just reiterated in Austin that it is strictly controlled and so the stewards had no choice but to hand out two penalty points. So Gasly is now on nine penalty points and will remain so for the time being. Only in May 2023 will two more points expire.
Penalties for Gasly
Spain: two penalty points for crash with Stroll
Austria: three penalty points for crash with Vettel and track limits
Japan: two penalty points for speeding under the safety car
United States: two penalty points for leaving too much space behind safety car
Gasly not the only one with penalty points in US
A total of five other Formula 1 drivers were penalised with penalty points. Stroll got two penalty points for his part in the crash with Fernando Alonso, Russell got two for his mistake in the incident with Carlos Sainz. Mick Schumacher exceeded the track limits too many times and was credited with one penalty point for that. Albon also got one penalty point 'leaving the track and gaining an advantage'.
