McLaren stresses: 'Penalty for Red Bull did not fit the breach'

Now that it has been established that Red Bull Racing breached the budget cap, albeit not with malicious intent, other Formula 1 teams are not holding back. McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl thinks the punishment imposed by the FIA is not appropriate for the offence and hopes that tougher action will be taken in the future.
Seidl had no desire to listen to Red Bull Racing 's press conference and therefore does not know what Christian Horner said there. "It was probably another fairy tale hour. Not really interested in that," he says in conversation with Sky Sports. As a "positive side note", the McLaren team boss says the FIA did a good job of auditing.
McLaren is not happy
"Nine teams got it right, and it was confirmed that one team was clearly in breach," continued Seidl, who, like CEO Zak Brown, is not at all happy with the punishment imposed by the FIA. "From my point of view, that penalty doesn't fit the breach. I just hope moving forward there are stricter penalties in the future."
As for the current Formula 1 season, the McLaren boss believes there is no excuse for being at fault, including because of inflate and sky-high energy prices. "We've had discussions with all the teams, the FIA and F1 on these topics and it has been made clear. That is why the cap was adjusted," Seidl said.
