Lewis Hamilton has responded to Fernando Alonso's comments after the Mexico Grand Prix. The Spaniard said in an interview with De Telegraaf that Max Verstappen's world titles are more valuable than Hamilton's. The Briton has to laugh a bit about it.

Alonso received a lot of criticism in Mexico last weekend for his statements in an interview with De Telegraaf. The Alpine driver implied that Hamilton's titles were worth less because he only had to beat his teammate.

Alonso distanced himself from the comments. On Twitter, the Spaniard revealed that he is tired of the constant search for exciting headlines. Alonso stressed that he has great respect for Hamilton and his world titles. In response, Hamilton posted a picture of the two drivers on the podium at the 2007 United States Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion had beaten Alonso for victory there. Hamilton only added a 'thumbs up' emoji to the post.

Hamilton has to giggle at Alonso's comments

During the post-race press conference, Hamilton was asked about his former teammate's comments. "I don’t really have a lot to say about it. It does make me giggle a little bit, to be honest, but I have tried to be really respectful over the years, for example when you’ve ever asked me who’s been the best driver against me, I’ve given praise."

The Briton takes Alonso's comments with a grain of salt. "It’s definitely interesting to see the comments that are made, but it doesn’t really matter – so that’s why I just kind of put the thumbs up," the Mercedes driver ends.
