Sergio Perez hoped to qualify for victory in Mexico in his home country, but winner Max Verstappen did not allow it. Trailing 18 seconds behind Verstappen, Perez crossed the finish line. Speaking to the NOS the Mexican commented on the level of the Dutchman.

Over the past two seasons, Perez became extensively acquainted with Verstappen. Whereas last season he finished over two hundred points behind Verstappen in the world championship, this year the difference is 136 points for now.

Perez therefore tells the medium that being in the same team is not easy. "It is very challenging to be Max's teammate. It's not easy because he obviously wins a lot from you. But it is incredibly instructive."

Perez has a lot of respect for Verstappen

Next season, Perez hopes to still qualify for the world title, although the difficult task of outsmarting his teammate will then await him. Ferrari and Mercedes are also hoping to compete for the race year's top prize in 2023.

However, the Mexican driver knows how difficult it is to maintain Verstappen's sky-high level of performance. He therefore finds it difficult to give a tip on how to beat the two-time world champion. "There is no one-size-fits-all recipe to win from him. He is so all-round and very stable."
