Frederik Vesti will make his debut in a Formula 1 car this month, he announces himself on social media. Indeed, the talented racing driver will step into a Mercedes on 22 November in Abu Dhabi during the Young Driver Test.
The Danish racing driver has been part of Mercedes' training programme since 2021 and has impressed his team in that capacity. This season he is competing in Formula 2, in which he has so far failed to progress beyond eighth place with a 124-point deficit to Felipe Drugovich.
During the last race weekend of the year in Abu Dhabi, Vesti will have the opportunity to prove himself in a Formula 1 car. "A childhood dream coming true," is how he himself calls the news he was told by Mercedes. The 20-year-old driver additionally thanks his team for the opportunity.

Mercedes fighting for points
Mercedes is expected to have something to fight for in Abu Dhabi. After all, George Russell, Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz can all still finish fourth in the championship. Russell is currently in this spot, but Hamilton's deficit is only 15 points. In the constructors' championship, Mercedes can still secure second, although it would have to catch up with Ferrari.
