Sergio Perez finished the sprint race fifth, one place behind his teammate Max Verstappen. The Mexican is currently battling for second place in the championship and asked over the radio if Verstappen would therefore switch places. The Dutchman did not.

At Viaplay, Perez was therefore asked if he had hoped Verstappen would give up his position. The Mexican responded diplomatically: "Well, tomorrow is the most important race. That's when the most points can be earned. So then we have to work as a team and take as many points as possible for our championship. That's the most important thing for tomorrow."

Perez surprised by Mercedes pace

Mercedes was the fastest on Saturday. That surprised Perez. "Yes, they were very strong today. They were very, very strong. So, yes I am very surprised by them."
