Weather update GP Brazil | Will Mercedes start from pole position in the rain?
- GPblog.com
A lot of rain was forecast for the start of the Grand Prix weekend in Brazil. So far, we have only seen showers during the sessions on Friday, on Saturday it remained dry. On Sunday, the chances of rain have also decreased considerably.
The rain played a major role during qualifying on Friday. The changeable weather meant that drivers were constantly on the track to set the fastest lap time. At the beginning of Q3, the drivers recorded times on the soft tyres, but halfway through the session the rain poured down. As a result, nobody was able to improve their time and Kevin Magnussen surprisingly managed to take pole position.
Chance of rain greatly reduced
While the chance of rain was previously at 51 per cent for Sunday, that percentage has now dropped considerably. According to the latest forecast from Weather.com there is only a two per cent chance of rain at the start of the race (3pm local time) and it will be partly cloudy. An hour after that, that percentage increases by only one per cent.
Because of the track's location (between two lakes), it remains difficult to predict the weather, but for now it looks like George Russell will start from first position on a dry track. Max Verstappen has an extra set of soft tyres left compared to the competition, so perhaps that could provide an advantage in dry weather.
