Alpine are working hard to be even more successful next season than in 2022. The formation ran into reliability problems with their engine this year which caused the team to lose expensive points for the world championship. For Otmar Szafnauer, resolving the situation is therefore a big priority.

With Alpine, the team boss is largely focused on improving the reliability of the power unit and feels they have made some good strides. It gives him confidence that the racing stable can score more points next calendar year. "We should have a more reliable power source next year," he concludes in conversation with Formule1.nl.

Alonso disappointed by dropouts

Alonso in particular complained about his drop-outs several times this season. The Spaniard finished ninth in the championship with 81 points, but he could have been higher. Indeed, no fewer than six times he had to abandon his race early.

Alonso earlier claimed that his stoppages had cost him 60 points. While Szafnauer can understand that Alonso was quite upset, he himself does not dare mention a number of points. "I don't know how many exactly, but it is definitely a considerable number. Definitely in the double digits."
