Schumacher puts performance in perspective: 'Best of the young drivers'

Ralf Schumacher believes his nephew Mick may be the best young driver in Formula 1. According to the former F1 driver, it is therefore down to Haas that the young German has lost his seat.
Mick Schumacher is leaving Haas after two seasons in Formula 1. The son of the legendary Michael Schumacher has yet to live up to his status as a top talent. Alongside Kevin Magnussen, Schumacher simply made too many mistakes and was also slower over a full year. Haas therefore opts to replace him for Nico Hulkenberg in 2023.
Pressure on young talent
Ralf agrees that Mick should have been closer to Magnussen and that the young driver has made some mistakes at times, but compared to his peers, he is doing very well. "If you see the newcomers with Tsunoda and Zhou, then I it's pretty clear that Mick is one of the better ones, maybe the best,'' says uncle Ralf according to Formel1.de.
The elder Schumacher therefore blames Haas for not being patient. Whereas Franz Tost shows confidence and patience with a talent like Tsunoda and the Japanese will start his third season at the racing stable, Schumacher is pushed aside after just one lean year.
New opportunities for Schumacher
Ralf therefore believes that Haas should have supported a young driver like Mick much more. ''You have to give him a hug sometimes. Of course criticism is allowed, but the criticism was often severe. That's a shame, because under those circumstances a driver cannot perform,'' Ralf concludes.
Mick must now look for a new adventure, but has no shortage of interest. Mercedes would like to appoint the young German as a reserve driver, but so would Alpine. In addition, Audi's future project beckons and even an Asian businessman is said to be interested in starting his own F1 team with Mick as driver.
