Schumacher proud of Mercedes appointment: 'My father built the foundation'

Mick Schumacher will join Mercedes AMG F1 as a reserve driver and will then be part of the team that his father, Michael Schumacher, was once part of. It means a lot to the young German.
Schumacher was removed from the grid by Haas F1. The team led by Guenther Steiner chose to bring Nico Hülkenberg back to Formula 1 and benefit from his experience. For its part, Mercedes will also start benefiting from Schumacher's experience, but in a different way. Behind the scenes, the German will support Lewis Hamilton and George Russell in the fight for the title in 2023.
Schumacher proud of his father's work
The fact that Schumacher is now part of the team where his father, the legendary seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, drove more than a decade ago, matters a lot to him. In an interview with the team on YouTube the driver says: "It means a lot. My dad has been part of this team since 2010 until 2012. Obviously it was a lot of the foundation of what is done today, so I am very proud to be a part of it now."
Having spent two years on the grid with Haas F1, Schumacher has two full seasons of experience. Although the Haas management did not consider his experience enough to stay on the grid, the German can start using his experience in Mercedes' simulators. Schumacher: "I guess it is not as common for a team to have a reserve driver that has been driving the new era of cars. I know the new tyres, I know what's it About, I know what the car needs in terms of driving style, so I hopefully I'll be able to contribute in that respect. The simulation work will also be very important. I hope I can contribute in that and also learn a lot and use that in the rest of my career."
