Top 5: Christmas edition | Formula 1 cars in action in the snow
- GPblog.com
It is Boxing Day and so this week's top five has a matching theme. We dived into the archives and listed the five most spectacular moments of Formula cars (strictly speaking, they are not all Formula 1 cars) in the snow.
5. Sebastien Buemi - Red Bull Racing, Canada 2010
Max Verstappen was not the first F1 driver to drive a Red Bull Racing car in winter conditions. Previously, Sebastien Buemi took to the ice once in Quebec, where he gave a spectacular demonstration on a frozen lake.
4. Mika Hakkinen - McLaren, Finland 2000
More than 20 years ago now: In the year 2000, two-time world champion Mika Hakkinen took his wife for a ride in a two-seater. This was not just any ride, as the former McLaren driver made the drive through the snowy forests of Finland.
3. Formula car on the Nordschleife, 2012
Strictly speaking not an F1 car, but no less spectacular for that. Andy Gülden, chief instructor of the Nürburgring Driving Academy, took to the snowy Nordschleife in a Formula car in a temperature of minus 16 degrees.
2. Fernando Alonso - Renault, Silverstone 2005
It doesn't get any closer to an F1 session in the snow. During a Renault winter test at the Silverstone circuit in 2005, snow fell on the track, but that did not stop Fernando Alonso and his team from continuing the session.

1. Max Verstappen - Red Bull Racing, Austria 2016
Of course, Max Verstappen cannot be missing from the list. In the year he was promoted from Toro Rosso to the Red Bull Racing team, the Dutchman drove a spectacular demo run in the snowy mountains of Kitzbühel, Austria.
