There he and his teammate waited for assistance, but the damage proved too severe to be repaired.
Sainz sr. did manage to enjoy his participation with his family. In conversation with Marca Sainz sr. talks about his son's passion for rallying. The Ferrari driver attended last week at his father's invitation. He even almost caused Sainz sr. a penalty when he closed the door of his car.

"He loves the Dakar, but now he is clearly focused on Formula 1. The Dakar can wait, but if he already liked it, he likes it even more now. From the questions he asks, I think he will definitely try it in time", predicts the Spaniard.
In an earlier interview, Sainz Jr. advised Ferrari to participate in the Dakar Rally in the future. "I think the Dakar is magical and the bivouac even more so", he said. Who knows, maybe the young Spaniard will take over from his father in the future.
