Aston Martin clear: 'Never said we are going to be world champions'

Aston Martin believes it can grow towards the top of the standings in the coming years with Fernando Alonso. At the same time, team boss Mike Krack, speaking to Spanish AS that it is holding back on this.
"We never said we are going to win," Krack began to the medium. "We never said we are going to be world champions. We are trying to progress and want to be there in a few years, but we never stated that we are going to win with Fernando."
Alonso still top driver
Whereas Aston Martin was able to make many strides with Sebastian Vettel in the past two seasons, the team hopes to continue this line with Alonso. Indeed, according to Krack, the experienced Alonso still has the potential to compete for podium places.
Looking solely at the level of drivers, Alonso even belongs among the top drivers on the current grid, according to the team boss. "In a car identical to everyone else's, he is on the front row," Krack stressed. Nevertheless, he wants to take his time in the coming years to grow with Aston Martin towards the big teams.
