Mazepin finds new challenge after Formula 1 exit
- GPblog.com
Nikita Mazepin will return to competitive motorsport this calendar year, according to Motorsportweek.com. The Russian driver will compete next month in the Asian Le Mans Series where he will race for 99 Racing.
The driver drove for Haas in Formula 1 in 2021, with which he appeared to be entering his second season a year later. Nothing was further from the truth, however, as the Russian invasion of Ukraine led the US formation to decide to part ways with the driver and put Kevin Magnussen in his place.
It meant Mazepin saw his career come to a sudden halt and had to think about what he wanted to do in the future. So next month, he will enter the Asian Le Mans Series, where he will be a teammate of Ben Barnicoat and Felix Porteiro. In an ORECA 07 LMP2, he will start the four hours of Dubai.
Mazepin hopes for return to F1
Mazepin still has hopes of returning to Formula 1 within a few years. Although he failed to convince at Haas, the driver is sure he can handle the level of the motorsport class. However, it remains to be seen whether Mazepin will get another chance in the coming seasons.
