'Ferrari practices thousand pit stops before start of 2023 F1 season'
- GPblog.com
Ferrari has several areas in which it can improve in the 2023 Formula 1 season. High on the list are the pit stops, in which there is still a lot to be gained compared to the reigning world champions at Red Bull Racing. This is currently being worked on hard at the Italian racing team.
Red Bull has been unbeatable at pit stops for years. Even after the FIA implemented a rule that means a stop can no longer be faster than two seconds, the Austrian racing stable has triumphed in the pit stop rankings as ever. In contrast, Ferrari went wrong more than once during pit stops in 2022, and the Scuderia thinks it is high time to do something about it.

Led by new team boss Fred Vasseur, Ferrari is working hard to come out strong in 2023. To make sure the pitstops also run optimally from now on, the team has set up a special room that serves as a kind of operating theatre. In it, mechanics practise changing the tyres of a 2018 SF-71 three times a week.
The aim: to practise a thousand pit stops before the start of the new F1 season in Bahrain. In doing so, the aim is to stay under three seconds, but it is more about consistency than speed records. To achieve that goal, two teams have been set up, each performing twenty stops per session, according to the Italian edition of Motorsport.com.
