Gulf with Williams back in F1: its rich history in motorsport
- GPblog.com
Gulf will return to Formula 1 in 2023 with its partnership with Williams. The US oil company has a rich history in the motorsport class, dating back well into the last century. We list some of the brand's highlights.
The name featured, among others, on the McLaren M23, designed by Gordon Coppuck and John Barnard. With the car, the British formation won in 1974 with Emerson Fittipaldi, before achieving the same two years later with James Hunt. The car was on track between 1973 and 1978.
The Tyrrell 007 also featured Gulf's brand name. The racing stable managed a number of victories between 1974 and 1977 and competed for the world title with Jody Scheckter in the first year. However, he failed to beat Fittipaldi, while Swiss driver Clay Regazzoni finished second.

Successful 2021 McLaren
Two years ago, Gulf's logo was still on the McLaren MCL35M. With Lando Norris, the team achieved third and second place three times during the season, while Daniel Ricciardo even took victory in Italy. In the end, it did not progress beyond fourth place among the constructors.
