BREAKING: Sergio Perez reveals the team asked him to start administration
Sergio Perez has announced the team asked him to start the administration proceedings against Force India.
Perez told BBC Sport: "The team asked me to do it. Otherwise, it would have been very bad."
The Force India driver has been underpaid by £3 million due to financial pressures at the team. In the long run, it is hoped that this will help protect the team.
Earlier in the week, the Mexican described the situation at Force India as critical. Perez went on to suggest that he and the team wanted to do it to protect the work staff.
"[I did it] to look after the 400 people who work in the team. It was very tricky and difficult the days. Every day it really counted and I was told to help the team, to secure those jobs and that is the main reason behind it," Perez added.
"It was a very difficult decision for me because I am in the middle of it, but the picture will look bigger in the near future."
The team continue to operate as normal this weekend in Hungary. The summer break might be able to give the Pink Panthers some time to sort something out.
