Verstappen wants more competition between teams: 'That's what F1 needs'

In 2021, an intense rivalry played out between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, but also between both drivers' teams. The two-time world champion does not necessarily see such a rivalry as additional motivation, but would rather like to see more competition in Formula 1.
Verstappen wants more competition in F1
Asked by CNN how he has experienced the rivalry between Red Bull Racing and Mercedes and whether it has given him extra motivation, Verstappen says it has not. He would, however, like to see more teams competing with each other. "There are more great brands out there, like Ferrari and McLaren. I hope all these great brands can fight for a title together one day. It’s something F1 wants and needs."
The bond between Verstappen and Sergio Perez is still good, despite the disagreement that arose during the 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix. In that, Verstappen did not want to let his teammate pass him, something the Mexican was decidedly unhappy about afterwards.
However, that incident has long since put the driver duo behind them. "It's been really good, we get really along well," said the Dutchman, who is entering his third year with Perez as a teammate. "Also for the team, it's important that we can rely on each other and work together to move the team forward." That emotions sometimes run high is part and parcel of racing, Verstappen assures.
