Kravitz: 'Mercedes have a plan B ready for the car'
- GPblog.com
Mercedes struggled immensely with aerodynamic problems last year. Plagued by porpoising, the team tried to get through the season, but they had no real chance of winning the world title. What does that mean for this year?
A 'plan B?'
Formula 1 reporter Ted Kravitz thinks, on Sky Sports F1, that the team have a 'plan B' in production, should this year's car also fail to perform. Mercedes say that the 'zeropod' concept they introduced last year was not the root cause of their major problems and so they will take to the track again this year with a similar model. They are giving it one more chance.
But, it is therefore quite possible that Mercedes have a backup plan, should they run into problems with this car as well. The change to a successful concept could, à la Red Bull Racing, happen mid-season. Kravitz also believes that, under the current rules that are fixed for a few more years, Mercedes will have to manage to produce a good car. Whether that already happens this season remains to be seen.
