Max Verstappen will not be in action during the third and final day of testing in Bahrain on Saturday, but the Red Bull Racing driver was allowed to join the press conference during the lunch break. The two-time world champion is incredibly happy with the RB19 and is looking forward to the start of the season.
Verstappen sees clear improvements
Verstappen again stressed that he found his test days in the RB19 to be extremely positive. "The car is a little bit different compared to last year, so it also drives slightly differently. That also has to do with the new tyres," the Red Bull Racing driver is quoted by De Telegraaf.
However, the reigning world champion can state that the car has overtly improved compared to 2022. "The overweight at the beginning was the biggest problem. We learned a lot and hopefully we can make a good start next week," Verstappen said.
Verstappen basically just drove fast laps on the C3 tyre on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday morning, we saw Charles Leclerc and George Russell doing (sort of) qualifying runs on the C4 and C5s respectively. Sergio Pérez did not go for it in the morning. He is expected to do so in the afternoon in the final hours of testing.
