- GPblog.com
Max Verstappen may have won the Bahrain Grand Prix in dominant fashion, but the man of the weekend was Fernando Alonso. The 41-year-old veteran drove to the podium in a rock-solid race, which earned him first place in the Power Rankings of Formula1.com.
Alonso trumps Verstappen in F1 Power Rankings
Verstappen drove a perfect race, but disappeared from view immediately after the start. It was therefore Alonso who impressed the judges most, thanks in part to brilliant overtaking moves on Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. The Aston Martin driver regained all the places lost after a weaker start as well as outsmarting Carlos Sainz to take third place.
The top three of the Power Rankings is completed by Alexander Albon. The Williams driver impressed by climbing up to tenth place from fifteenth on the grid and then defending it tooth and nail, capturing the final point.
There is also appreciation for Pierre Gasly, who also drove a strong catch-up race from last position on the grid. In addition, Charles Leclerc and Lance Stroll are not forgotten: the former was on a podium course until his Ferrari failed, while Stroll bit through the pain of a broken wrist and toe to cross the finish line in sixth place.
