Alonso also familiar with injuries: 'Had still not recovered in August'

Lance Stroll broke both wrists and his big toe just before the start of the 2023 F1 season. His teammate Fernando Alonso knows what it feels like to get behind the wheel with injuries. In 2021, the Spaniard went through the same at Alpine.
Stroll recovered at lightning speed and was back in the car less than two weeks after the incident. The driver was visibly in pain and had to fight through his injuries during the race, but he did finish the race and ended up on P6. Teammate Alonso knows what such a race feels like and knows why Stroll was driving anyway.
Alonso drove half season with injured hands
Indeed, Alonso experienced a similar situation in 2021. The Spaniard broke bones in both hands, also just before the winter tests. The two-time world champion could not wait to get back in the car and drove his races. To ESPN, Alonso has now told that he had not recovered until the summer. So he drove half a season with fractures in his hands.
Alonso: "In my case, I broke a few bones in both hands last year. So, until August I was not fully recovered. I had some pain, but we love driving!"
