Wolff suggests Mercedes changes: "We'd even put a sticker on it "Red Bull"
Toto Wolff has suggested that Mercedes will head towards the Red Bull Racing concept when they apply the upgrades to the car in the coming races. The Mercedes team are currently second in the World Championship following George Russell's podium in Saudi Arabia but according to Wolff this is "first losers".
Mercedes already acknowledged they were well below the required level in Bahrain. An open letter to their fans followed during the off-week. Where Mercedes refused to change their concept through the winter, it seems they are now heading down the Red Bull route and admitting defeat with their current car. Wolff joked they will even place a Red Bull sticker on it.
Mercedes concept changes
"We are seeing performance gains compared to Bahrain. Shows development goes in the right direction but we want to race for wins soon. Red Bulls are a minute ahead. If you look at the Red Bull's. They are just so quick, and I think we just understand the car more. We are changing the bodywork, how the floor works, and mechanically we are looking at certain areas. The team at Brackley are just flat-out. It's really nice to see," Wolff told Sky Sports.
"You could call it a Red Bull or Aston Martin concept. Even if it looked like an English double decker bus, we'd do it if its fast. We'd even put a little sticker on it "Red Bull" if they want it."
