A museum for Formula 1, the F1 Exhibition, has opened in Madrid. The museum is full of F1 history, with all teams except Aston Martin contributing to it. The museum notices that a lot of young fans are buying tickets, with talk of a possible Madrid Grand Prix coming up.

Thursday was the opening of the museum, and GPblog was there. There is a bit of everything on display, but the most impressive object is the burnt-out chassis from Romain Grosjean's crash in Bahrain. Until 4 June, the F1 Exhibition can be admired in Madrid.

Many young people buy ticket

The idea of the museum is that fans who do not have the chance to visit venues where a race is held can still get close to Formula 1 this way. The organisers did not expect so many young people to attend. "Formula One has just increased in popularity. We're seeing in early ticket sale indications, it's a lot of younger ticket buyers than maybe we would have initially anticipated."

Grand Prix in Madrid?

Organisers were also asked what they would think of a Grand Prix in the Spanish capital. The Spanish Grand Prix has long been on the calendar, but in recent years it has been held in Barcelona. "It's not for us to comment on where Formula One may host or will not host the Grand Prix in the future, but I have to say it's wonderful being here. I think we've made a really good decision coming to Madrid. It feels exciting to be able to do the show here, but that's probably all I should really say on that particular question."
