Sky analyst suspects: 'Mercedes had a secret project running'

Sky Sports analyst Ted Kravitz suspects that Mercedes has had plans to overhaul the car's design for some time. According to the analyst, it is illogical that Mercedes could already be making significant changes at such short notice.
Mercedes seems to be going in a radically different direction for car development. The current model obviously cannot do what it needs to do, and so the factory is busy working on an alternative. Toto Wolff noted recently that he was willing to do anything to get a better car, even if it means sticking the Red Bull logo on it.
'They must already have this ready to go'
Kravitz now says that, in his opinion, this is a distraction. According to the Sky Sports analyst, it cannot be that the ideas are only now being started for the first time. "I was thinking about this the other day, maybe there was a secret project going on in Brackley over the winter. That they said, 'We will continue with the original design, but make a copy of the Red Bull via an additional project and see where we end up.' They must already have this new design ready to go. You can't send something to the wind tunnel now that you didn't already work on a few months ago, these things just don't move that fast."
Wolff himself contradicted this idea beforehand, stating that there is no budget for a development like this. The budget cap would make it impossible to have two different development tracks, so he said the team had to make a clear choice.
