Glock: 'In Baku, Red Bull will pull a bigger gap again'
- GPblog.com
Former F1 driver Timo Glock is hoping for more excitement in the 2023 F1 season, but from his analysis of the last Australian Grand Prix, it seems that will not come anytime soon. In Baku, Red Bull Racing will be even faster and an answer for Ferrari will also not come anytime soon.
Mercedes then sat back in Australia, which provided a surprise. The eventful race at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne was won by Max Verstappen, Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton was on P2 and Fernando Alonso kept the connection throughout the race on P3. We have yet to see any real excitement for the race win and Glock seems to regret that.
Red Bull will distance itself even more
In his column for Sky.de Glock says that Red Bull will be faster again in the upcoming race in Azerbaijan: "Is there any hope of the races becoming more exciting?" According to Glock, it was due to the characteristics of the track in Australia that the gaps were smaller last weekend. Glock: "In Baku, there are more corners and long straights where the Red Bull's DRS is going to help. Therefore, I think Red Bull is going to have a bigger gap again compared to the competition in Baku."
In any case, the opposition will not come from Ferrari. According to Glock, the Scuderia is the disappointment of the season's start: "In terms of speed, they are not doing anything. Charles Leclerc shows that after a bad qualifying session, he is also at risk of getting into trouble at the start of the race. [...] It's not the start Ferrari was hoping for. It's up to Fred Vasseur to make a quick change."
