Aston Martin team boss remains cautious: 'Australia was very difficult'

Aston Martin team boss Mike Krack has heaped praise on Fernando Alonso. Speaking to AS Krack indicated that Alonso's performance has far exceeded his expectations, although he remains cautious about the team's overall chances.
Aston Martin has convincingly made the biggest advance this season compared to 2022. The British racing stable is currently second in the championship, and Fernando Alonso has been on the podium in every race now. Yet Krack still guards against too much euphoria.
"In Bahrain we were very competitive, in Jeddah we were good and in Australia we really struggled," analyses the team boss. "When we look at all the data, we have to look at where we really are and we are talking about minimal margins. A small gust of wind or a slight bit of oversteer can determine a position. But this happens when the margins are so small, it is the situation we are in and we always have to go for it 100 per cent. Being competitive at all three tracks gives us confidence at each track, but the experience is always very different. We have Baku, with a huge straight line, and Monaco, with no straight line. We have to be careful before drawing too many conclusions from each Grand Prix."
Krack is proud of Alonso
One thing should be clear: Alonso has exceeded the team's expectations. "Three podiums? He should have won all three races! " jokes Krack. "No, if someone had told me we would get three podiums in three races, I wouldn't have believed it. It shows us what a champion we have there! His consistency is incredible, if you look at all the sessions so far, including the free practice sessions, he has always been at the front."
