Russell sees similarities Mercedes: 'We are in the same situation again'

Despite Mercedes' mediocre 2022 scores, George Russell is still satisfied with how the season has gone. With an uncompetitive car, the Brit still managed to win the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. He looked back on that year positively.
If Russell had heard prior to the season that he would only win once and that the team was third in the Constructors' Championship, he would not be satisfied with that. But as the season progressed, he would become content with that.
"Once we learned that we didn’t have a car to fight for a championship, I think I’ve got to be very proud of the job that we achieved to finish fourth, fighting almost for second in the Constructor Standings, winning a race with a car that was a long way off the pace. It was definitely a very good season."
Mercedes similarities
The 25-year-old Briton sees similarities from last season to this season. Once again, there is no competitive car on the grid this year. "We’re kind of in the same situation again where we’re going to have to come together, dig deep within all of us to get through the relative difficulties," Russell said.
Russell has not yet been on the podium this year, but praised those within the Mercedes team. "I’m sure about within this team is everybody wants to win and they will do anything in their hands to be able to achieve that. Clearly, we aren’t where we want to be as a team."
