Dutch and British F1-fans have bought tickets in their masses for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Reuters report that based on an analysis by the race organisers these countries fill the top three of where the most tickets for the race have been sold, along with host nation Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is the next race on the calendar after a spring break of several weeks. It will be the sixth time in seven years that the race has been on the Formula 1 calendar. The only time in recent years that the race did not go ahead was in the pandemic year 2020. That the race has still not lost popularity can be clear: tickets for the race have never been sold so quickly. Turab Teymurov, the circuit's press secretary, makes it clear that this year's sales are unprecedented.

The Netherlands one of the biggest markets

The race is doing especially well among Dutch and British fans. Together with Azerbaijan itself, the Netherlands and Britain are in the top three countries where the most tickets have been sold. Just last year, the race in Baku was won by Max Verstappen. If he does so again this year, Verstappen will thus become the first driver to manage to win the Azerbaijan Grand Prix twice.

The race is currently in the final year of his contract with Formula 1. The organisers of the Grand Prix previously announced talks with the sport to enter into a contract extension. Teymurov indicated that he wants the race to become one of the sport's permanent venues and become as iconic as Monza or Monaco.
