Audi will be able to test first version of F1 engine as early as end of this year

Audi will participate as one of 10 teams in the Formula 1 championship in 2026, but will also be one of six engine builders. According to the latest reports, it looks like the German carmaker is on track with the development of the power unit.

Audi reported at its F1 project presentation in China that before this year is over, it will already test a prototype of the F1 engine they plan to use from 2026. China is the brand's main market, which is why a special presentation was held in Shanghai, China.
Audi revealed in a press statement that the upcoming racing team has already been testing with a single-cylinder engine since 2022 to get the test bench in order. With these preparations, the team expects to test a full F1 engine by the end of the year.
The press statement says: "The first full hybrid drivetrain unit, consisting of the combustion engine, electric motor, battery and electronic control unit, is scheduled to run on the test bench before the end of this year and will form the basis for the future vehicle concept. "
