Silverstone building a 'summer festival feel' at the British Grand Prix

The modern era of Formula 1 is about much more than practice, qualifying and the Grand Prix itself. This has been building for many years but increased drastically when Liberty Media took the reigns. As a result, a party often follows the F1 circus around the world, especially in countries like The Netherlands, Mexico and Brazil.

Silverstone circuit have today [Thursday] announced that one of the biggest artists, DJs and producers in the world, Calvin Harris, will headline the event for the first time ever, alongside Jess Glynne and Cat Burns for the best of British launch party on Thursday night. Festival powerhouses Jax Jones (Friday), Black Eyed Peas (Saturday) and Tom Grennan (Sunday) will headline the remaining weekend slots. Other support acts are yet to be announced. 

Fans who have already purchased tickets for the British Grand Prix can watch the performances at no extra cost. They expect up to 45,000 people to have access to the viewing area. This year’s music offering has been curated by Grammy-nominated and Ivor Novello Award-winning British songwriter and producer Jamie Scott, who was appointed Director of Music and the Arts at Silverstone last year. Scott also works with the Glastonbury Festival. 

“I never imagined I’d get the opportunity to merge my two biggest passions in life: motorsport and music. Anyone who has visited Silverstone knows it already has the feel of a British summer festival. We want to capture that and build on it to create something truly special," Scott said. 

"In the past, the music offering has been secondary to the action on the track, but we are changing that. We want to deliver something that matches the race action and lifts the weekend experience as a whole. I know how ambitious that sounds, but that’s exactly what we plan to do - starting with this year’s Thursday night launch party!”
