Williams driver Sargeant compares F1 and F2: 'That's the big difference'
- GPblog.com
Logan Sargeant is one of three rookies this season in Formula 1. The American is certainly not making a bad impression, although he is waiting for his first points for the Williams team. Of course, that can still happen, as adjusting from Formula 2 to Formula 1 is not an easy task.
On his team's website, Sargeant explains the main difference between the step-up class and Formula 1. "I think the biggest thing is when you come into an F1 weekend is you’re being pulled in multiple directions, whereas in F2, it’s fully track-focused.", he said.
More time is needed
Sargeant was used to using Thursday for track walks and extensive briefings with his engineers. However, in Formula 1, there are many media commitments and sponsorship activities where attendance is required on Thursdays, so to work on the set-up with the engineers as much as in F2, more time is needed. So Sargeant is spending longer than he was used to when in F2.
Physically, too, racing in Formula 1 is more challenging. "I feel like my body is still building up to it, but it’s getting closer and closer each race, and I hope within a few more rounds, I’m to the point where I’m at my best." One way Sargeant is doing that is by training a lot, on his neck muscles and shoulders, for example. Increasing his cardiovascular endurance is also an issue the American is paying a lot of attention to.
