EA Sports confirm launch date and the new features in F1 23
EA Sports F1 23 will be released on Friday, June 16 2023, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, via EA App, Epic Games Store, and Steam. EA Sports have confirmed a range of new features will be included in this year's instalment of the game, including a new Braking Point chapter and the long-awaited introduction of red flags.
The game is being released slightly earlier this year compared to previous editions. It will be available to play on the Friday of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend as Formula 1 concludes the first triple-header of the season. In addition, a digital-exclusive F1 23 Champions Edition can be pre-ordered (before May 31st), which includes time-limited Las Vegas content, Max Verstappen Race Wear Pack, and three days early access, amongst other perks.
Last week, EA Sports launched the Champions Editor cover featuring Max Verstappen. The standard edition cover features Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris, led by Ferrari's Charles Leclerc in the middle.

Braking Point
Modern days games are always looking to add extra dimensions, and the Formula 1 game found that with Braking Point in 2021. F1 21 became the fourth story mode in the EA Sports library with successful series in FIFA, Madden NFL and Fight Night Champion. The story mode followed Aiden Jackson's rise through the junior ranks into Formula 1. After not appearing in the F1 22 edition, Braking Point returns in F1 23, and Jackson is now teammates with the protagonist Devon Butler as they look to push further up the standings.
“The return of Braking Point allows players to immerse themselves in a racing story, which provides a unique look at F1 alongside the authentic race features our players know and love. Our close relationship with the teams has allowed us to refine our handling model, adding greater realism to pad-play and implementing a new colour encoding system used in film and TV creates a more true-to-life experience," said Lee Mather, Senior Creative Director at Codemasters.
New features
Red flags will finally make an appearance in the F1 game. The long-awaited and much-talked-about feature will add an extra dimension to the gameplay, giving them additional decisions to make. After feedback from players, they will introduce a 35% race distance, "providing the perfect sweet spot between the previous short and long race options".
The game's handling has also received an upgrade. It will allow for "more predictable behaviour, and new vehicle physics gives the cars better traction when braking, accelerating, and cornering". EA Sports claim that pad players will have better control. The game will see F1 World Hub debut, bringing together multiple game modes. The game will follow the current F1 World Championship calendar, with the inclusion of Paul Ricard, Shanghai and Portimão as bonus legacy circuits.
