Once again, new team signs up for spot on F1 grid: LKY SUNZ
- GPblog.com
Once again, a candidate has applied for a spot on the Formula 1 grid. The team is called LKY SUNZ and is funded by parties from the United States and Asia, the newly-formed team announced via a newly launched website.
The team will be led by co-founder and CEO Benjamin Durand, who was previously involved with the Panthera Asia F1 Team. That team never got off the ground. The team's pitch is to be in the United States. In particular, it wants to target minorities and offer them opportunities in motorsport.
Entry in 2025
LKY SUNZ hopes to make its entrance in mid-2025. Meanwhile, the team has declared its interest to the FIA. This was still possible as the FIA extended the entry deadline to 15 May. By the end of June, it would become clear whether the FIA and Formula 1 want to admit the team.
Earlier this year, the FIA allowed new teams to apply for 2025, 2026 or 2027. Besides LKY SUNZ, Andretti-Cadillac had also announced its intention to apply. Then Formula Equal followed, a team led by Craig Pollock. Hong Kong billionaire Calvin Lo had earlier expressed his interest to GPblog, although there has been no clarification on the state of his application since then.
