One-stopper expected in Miami, Mercedes make interesting tyre choice
- GPblog.com
Pirelli, as always, revealed what they expect as strategies for the race. According to the tyre supplier, the one and two-stoppers are very close to each other. What also stands out is that Mercedes has chosen a different strategy from other teams.
Minimal difference
According to Pirelli, a one-stop from medium tyres to hard tyres is the fastest strategy for the race in Miami. The pit stop should then be made somewhere between laps 13 and 20. Pirelli, however, expects a two-stopper to be only slightly slower in Miami. This strategy also involves starting on mediums and then switching to hards before going back to mediums.
Mercedes go for something different
It is notable that the Mercedes drivers have different tyres over than all other drivers except Lando Norris. In fact, these three drivers are the only ones with two new sets of hard tyres. This could provide a possible advantage due to the rain that fell in Miami. With the rain, all the rubber that was laid down is gone, causing tyre wear to go up.
